Can I root a Moto G2 after formatting the SD for the adoptable storage?

I formatted my 16GB when I upgraded my Moto G2 (2014) to Marshmellow. Later I tried to root it with a TWRP Recovery Youtube tutorial and the command said the preflash validation failed because of the partiotned memory or something of that sort. Now what can I do to root my phone?
