Getting started with Google android and authentication problem

Just received my Google 9 inch Android 4.4 quad core 16mb tablet..Just for the record:..I'm pretty much electronically challenged..lol..Anyway.. Can't seem to get everything set up..It either tells me I have no WiFi connection or I have an authentication problem..All of this is over my head...Hopefully there's someone out there who has the patience to help me..lol..And what is the SSID I'm asked for and how do I find it?..Is there a learning manual that I can get on this particular tablet?..Thanks again for any and all hedhedlp...Pete
