How do I get rid of device memory from apps installed I'm not using?

I bought a sd card with lots of memory.My phone won't let me update because of no space and won't let put any of it left on sd card. The systems memory is using 4.36 gb and I dont ude those apps,but cant delete. Samsung galaxy3 on at&t phone.
