Screen will not go completly black due to water immersion

S2 9.1 tablet SM T-813 When either powered down or in sleep mode the screen leaks light in a low level glowing way at first which after a minute turns to a vertical streaky glow and stays this way until is turned back on. When on / in use no screen problems at all. Started after a brief drop into water a few months ago. Drains the battery a little. I am considering replacing the battery myself but would like input on this screen issue first. Thanks in advance.
