why cant i type numbers in notes app

when i try to type numbers in the notes app it's like i didnt even press a button. it just ignores it. all other symbols in that keyboard appear to work, as well as all letters and all of the third keyboard, and emojis. why are all my phone problems stuff i cant just google and find an answer for
