Why won't my Samsung brand MHL HDMI cable now work on my Galaxy S5?

I connect the cable to the galaxy s5 and nothing occurs. I see the phone has the charging icon when everything is connected yet there is no picture. The "HDMI connected or disconnected" message no longer appears. I know this product used to work because I used it all the time, but these issues began popping up. Please help, thank you!
