Why does my screen randomly go black for a second and then come back on?

Ever since the last update for Android my screen on the Google pixel XL 2 will randomly at times go black and then come back on. It doesn't matter if I'm just reading an article or watching a video, it will just randomly do it. Any ideas as to why?
