Can I Change The Toolbar Theme To Dark On Android 8.1

My moto g5 plus just updated to Android 8.1 oreo (finally) from Android 7.0. I have one minor issue with the new system. When you swipe down from the top of the screen to reveal the toolbar( I think that's what it's called) it has a white background. It was dark gray on 7.0. I REALLY do not like this. Is there any way to change this to gray without a root? Thanks
