Does LG Nexus 5x International Version work well in the US?

I purchased an LG Nexus 5x International version about three weeks ago. I didn't realize it was this version. I live in the US. About that same time I started losing cell service within a couple of miles of one very specific location. I have had no problems with the cell service anywhere else. Google Fi told me it is because the phone is the International version. I was just hoping to get more input on this before I consider buying a new phone.
