Why do google products randomly removed from my home screen when my HTC M9 dies from battery loss?

Everytime my HTC M9 loses power due to battery loss, Gmail and Chrome are removed from my home screen. I've factory reset the phone and still have the same issue. I'm not sure if it happens everytime the battery died, but I can definitely tell it's linked to it somehow.

Is it possible my phone has a bad software update?

I've been having the issue for months now so I'm not sure when it started happening.
