Why will my ZTE phone no longer let me sign in using my google account?

I am trying to sign in to add a backup account on my phone but it asks me to put in my pattern, so I put in my pattern and then it says I need to put in my pattern again, so I do it another time. After that nothing happens, not even a sign in form pop up.
