Why does autocorrect only work 10% of the time?

I have an LG V35 thinQ. When I type, occasionally it gets off its *** and autocorrects. Most times it underlines it and i have to thumb it, pick from a list, and correct it.

Why doesn't it just do it? It knows damn well what word I meant to type?
