Stuck on Account Verification after factory reset?

I'm giving my old Moto G3 to a friend, so I did a factory reset. When I rebooted and I was asked to verify my account, I correctly entered my gmail account and password -- and I know the phone signed in, because I got an email alert from Google telling me there's been a new sign in on my Moto G3. Note that my password hasn't been changed in the last 72 hours -- and that the phone is connecting to my account. Hence, the confirmation email from google. But every time after I input the password I get a message saying 'Please sign in using one of the owners accounts for this device.' Help??
