Text message recovery

Why when I use the sms recovery not all text messages are In the backup vs on my phone. Also when I compare those messages on the messages app thread vs the call log thread of that sender they are showing deleted on the call log thread which I didnt do where they are fully accessible on my text message app. More less when I print the they are not all there. Someone please help and direct me, I need these for serious legal matters for the sake of my kids.
