Why does my LG Stylo 3 mute when I put it in my pocket?

I listen to music a lot when commuting, but my new LG Stylo 3 mutes sound whenever I put the phone in my pocket (both Sirius XM and Google Play apps did this). I couldn't find a setting to address this - any ideas?
