Why can't I download anything on my Sony Experia?

I am using a Sony Experia which is connected to my desktop wifi. (25 mbps down 10 mbps up). When I try to download an app from Google Playstore it says "download pending " and never does start. It has always worked properly in the past, so why is this happening all of a sudden?
