I have a few gripes about how most people writing articles about smartphones coming soon. It seems that all of the writers prefer an iPhone so they try to convince all of us that its the best and all other phones should be like it. Apple is not the best phone it just the most expensive, and people think because of that it must be the best. Like people who think the OnePlus6 is not as good as samsung S9.
The NOTCH
The notch is extra stupid to me. The moment LG, OPPO, OnePlus, Huawei and others went with a notch Samsung started advertising their uninterrupted display. Pointing out exactly why the notch is a silly notion.
The OS
People made a very big deal about Siri when it came out and they still do to a certain degree. But IRIS came well before SIRI (notice the names) the 2nd known of Android the Droid2. Apple copied it and then convince everyone it was new when it was not. Plus Google Assistant is better than all other voice systems.
The home screens are app drawers and customization to make your phone more informative are not available YET. I can look at one home screen and tell you the temperature, my schedule and at least 2 other things without doing any more than unlocking the phone. iPhone has boring home screens and they are stealing Android ideas with each update.
iOS is much more proprietary and does not interface with as many things as the Android. It does seem more secure with your data but I have yet to hear of any mass breach in an android nor have iI experienced any.
The Build
iPhone is built decently rugged but is not the best build quality. I might give that reign to Motorolla for the IP rated tanks they have built over the years. Moto was the first mainstream phone to offer water resistance on the Moto X2. Pick up a Moto Z-Force and you will immediately know the difference in build quality between the 2. Samsung has been much better since the S8 also. I would be comfortable saying that both of those phone makers build better than an iPhone for rugged-like handling.
The Finger Print
Again, because everyone writing about upcoming phones and how iPhone-ish it can be, it is convincing many phone makers to have an iPhone like sensor, most manufacturers are putting it on the back of the phone. Its another silly notion to me, because most peoples phone lay on a table or desk. This means you must pick up the phone to unlock it. Meanwhile, Moto Zs has it on the front, so I do not have to pick up my phone to unlock it. Samsung took it one step dumber and made it so that you use the fingerprint sensor to turn the phone on but a different button on the side to turn it off.
Ask yourself where else in your regular life does a switch that turns something on, does not turn it off?
Tomorrow there will be many more articles with verbiage that sounds like the writer can't wait til some phone manufacturer comes out with a new phone that's just like iPhone. Ohhh, will it have a notch???? from some "What we want to see" article that seems not to bother to think of something we want that the iPhone hasn't done yet.
