Can I backup texts to computer so I can read them offline

I am trying to copy all of my text messages from my Honor 6X phone to my computer so that I am read them from the computer and delete them from from the phone. So far, the two programs I have tried, 1 creates an XML file which I can't really read, and the other only lets me read the messages if my phone is attached. I don't use gmail, so I can't copy them to a gmail account. Any suggestions?
