Galaxy Tab S 10.5, back and recent apps buttons not working at all

After changing the charging port and changing battery, the buttons stopped functioning.all other functions of the tab seem to operate properly. i was able to use the accesabilty function to get a floating button on the screen where the back and recent apps functions work, but this is inconvenient.
