LG Transpyre google sign in

My son bought his first cell phone last month, did a basic setup, created a google account on the phone and password to get things going. Last week his friend tried to access the lock feature which resulted in a hard reset. Now he does not remember the google information to gain access to it again, still have receipt, box etc. Anything we can do besides mailing back to LG. He did not create a backup email or phone number to assign, so google isn't helping?
