Why does my Samsung Tab3 turn itself off after 2-3 minutes of use even on a full charge?

My samsung tab 3 turns off after a few minutes of actively using even if it has a full charge. it is also operating very slowly. (for those 2 minutes) do you have any suggestions? it will work (but still slowly) if plugged in.
