Is there a way to get my google + profile photo to show up on messenger texts using motorola droid

I read where my google + profile photo is suppose to show up when using gmail with android, and some of the texts I receive have the person's photo attached, but I can not get my google + profile to show up in texts or gmail. Can anyone tell me what I need to do to get them to show on my droid.
