Contact sync option missing

I have a Samsung A9Prorunning Android 7. I am trying to set it up like my Samsung phone to sync Google Calendar and Contacts. Both work fine on my phone and PC. On the tablet, though, in the Google account setting there is NO "Sync Contacts" option. There are options for syncing Gmail and Calendar, and they both work fine, but no option to enable Contacts sync.

I have cleared the Contacts app cache, removed and reinstalled the Google account numerous times with restarts in between, but still nothing.

Anybody have any ideas of what to do next?
