Huawei mate 9: my imported Google contacts show up with Chinese dialing code

I purchased a mate 9 from HK, and imported my numbers from my Google account. Though my language and locale settings are set to UK, and the contact numbers all show the correct UK format numbers, when I dial the phone automatically presets +86 and gets to dial. Unless I physically edit each number and insert +44 for UK, only then it works. Why is this happening and what's solution please?
