USB cable can't copy files from phone to computer or even see the phone

I have a G5 Plus and when I want to connect it to my computer I have to use the cable that came with the phone. I can't use any other usb to copy files to my computer. Is this a certain type of usb. It charges with oem cable and charger. But will not copy files unless I use the OEM cable.
