I want to use a back facing android camera as an external camera on my LG smartphone and or TaB

I need a flat thin camera (like the back facing camera on my smart phone) to make a camera eyepiece for my surveying instrument. I've made a prototype using a cheap 300 kpix chinese web camera $2.78 including shipping. But I want a more compact setup with better resolution.
