Is there any way to keep the Speech to Text microphone on longer?

I've been struggling through trying to find an acceptable dictation software. Google voice is but far superior, but if you take 2 seconds to think you have to press the microphone again. This makes it impossible to dictate while you are doing other tasks which is the point of dictating in the first place. Is there any way to make this window last longer or to toggle instead of timing out? Any info is appreciated, thanks!
