Can sitting an android on top of a magnet cause any harm to the phone?

I was charging an android that I never use, and the charger I used has a magnet in it that covers the entire back of my phone. After about 10 minutes, system apps were stopping, one after the other, with no pause in between, until eventually Google Services stopped, then the whole phone shut off like it was dead. And won't restart. Any ideas?
