Why does my screen stop responding?

The screen on my tablet will randomly stop responding when I'm holding it down. I could be scrolling and it would just stop even if my finger was still moving on the screen. I use it mainly for emulating and that's where it happens the most. For example, I could be holding down a button and despite my thumb still on it, any input on the screen would randomly cease. If I lift my finger and press and hold again, it will work, but after a second it will stop again. It does it in intervals almost like a rhythm... I use a Samsung Galaxy Tab 4, the model is SM-T23ONU.
