How do I mute messenger notification tone?

Hi all. I have had my P20 for a couple of months now. Generally speaking, I like it a lot. But 1 thing that really annoys me, is that I cant find how to mute this tone. Can someone please tell me how to mute the messenger notification tone/is it even possible to do so? I like that I get the "blue dot" to show that I have a message. I like that I have the profile icon on the screen to show whom the message is from. But the "ping" to say that I have a message, at 05:00 in the morning (my daughter is in the Philippines) annoys the hell out of me. Thanks
