My samsung s5 sign-on PIN is no longer reqd after auto screen off

My phone suddenly stopped asking for my PIN after the screen automatically turns off. Lock screen settings say "secured with PIN" & "screen will be locked in 5 seconds after screen automatically turns off".

I'm afraid to turn the phone off completely for fear that the whole "PIN thing" might be screwed up.
