Why won't it authenticate my email and how do I get out of the set-up?

I just got this phone and I was doing the set up for it and it asked for my email. Put in all my information CORRECTLY and it still says it cannot authenticate my email. I checked on my computer to make sure that was the right password for my email. I don't have a carrier set up because I don't want one yet. How do I either get it to authenticate or get out of the set-up part as a whole? I really don't care about my email being on my phone. I just want to use my ******* phone.
