I can't update google play and Facebook keeps shutting down.

I keep getting messages that I need to update google play and Facebook. When I try to, the prompt to login to my gmail account comes up. I made an account when I got the phone but never use that email or even check it. I log in to the gmail and don't exit it, then try to do update. Still says I need to log in.
