Can you prevent android from combining certain characters?

I recently put some music on my phone, never had a problem with it and I know how get the music and edit the metadata. I use normal .mp3 files and edit the metadata with EasyTAG. On my pc, there's no problem, but on my phone, both on my preferred music app, Equalizer+ and the built-in music app on my phone I have a small issue. There is an album by the band "Caravan Palace" called "<|°_°|>". A little unusual, I know, but I found it funny nonetheless. The problem is, that due to the uncommon combination of characters, there's probably something going on with "° + some characters" as it is shown as "<|起院>". I tried escaping the °'s with backslashes, but that didn't work. I tried using dec, hex and js codes like "&#176" "&#x00b0" and "\u00b0" but that showed up as plain text. If I insert a whitespace between the ° and the next character, the problem is not there, but there is a whitespace that isn't supposed to be there. Does anyone know if I can prevent android from combining those characters into what I assume is Chinese? Maybe a character that's there but doesn't show up?
Thanks in advance.
