My phone is offline when I use Facebook

I have a Samsung Galaxy S7 and I have tried closing the phone and restarting it to no avail. I was online yesterday and suddenly I'm getting messages when on Facebook that I cannot comment until I am back online. How did this happen and what can I do to fix it?
