S3 Mini wont stay on Download mode.

Hello everyone, I have an S3 Mini and it has the "Firmware upgrade encountered an issues...", I want to flash the phone but whenever I try to access Download mode, the phone turns off right after the "Continue" pops up, I took the battery off the phone for half and hour and it let me continue, but I can only be in download mode for about 5 seconds and the phone turns off.

The battery is swollen, could that be the reason?, what can I try?
