Why won't marshmallow let me define my sd as internal.

1. Samsung Note 4 verizon running Marshmallow.
2. Brand new high speed samsung sdhx.
Shut down the phone. Installed brand new high-speed card.
Power up phone and was told I had a new portable storage sd. No option given to change that.
Opened "settings", no "usb&sd" option.
Opened "storage", it showed "internal" and "portable" storage.
The only options were "format" and "unmount". Choosing format simply reformas it as, wait for it, portable storage.
At this point I'm ready to root the silly thing so I can at least remove all the bloatware.
