Can I use an unactivated Verizon S6 in Ireland with an Irish Vodafone IE SIM?

1) Will an Irish Vodafone IE SIM work in the phone straight out of the box -- does it need to be activated on Verizon first?

2) Will I be able to receive at least 3G?
