Cant take new photo in gmail app?

I have a lg g6, I'm trying to send an email and take a New photo to send as an attachment but it wont let me. It only allows me to attach a photo from my camera roll. Do I have to go to my camera app and take the picture so it saves in my phone every time to send it in the gmail app?? Simple stuff like this are what people love about iPhone..
