I made and old Nexus 7 tablet into a satnav for my parents car (they are not very tech savvy so everything should be as automatic as possible).
It is plugged in an in car charger which outputs 2.4A. I am using tasker to turn it on when the car is turned on and put it to sleep and in battery saving mode when the car is off (detected as no charging).
All in all it works well, but there are two issues for which I would appreciate suggestions.
1. Battery runs out after 2-3 days because while in use it is barely charging since it uses a lot of power and it is not charging when car is off. This would be solved if the device had quick charge but unfortunately it does not. I thought of using a powerbank with quick charge capacity, but then I lose capability of detecting that the car is on or off. Any suggestions would be welcome.
Ideally being able to fully power off when car turns off and to power on when it starts would probably solve the issue, something like wake on LAN for android, but this would also make 2. even worse...
2. It takes about 5 minutes after starting the ride for it to start seeing GPS satellites and giving location, not a big deal but if it could somehow retain connection to satellites this would be nice.
Any advice or tips would be much appreciated
