Texting Issues

This might sound like a stupid question but I guess I'm not really up on technology. Recently, a group of friends of mine started a group message. I didn't initially even realize my phone had this feature, I had never really had a reason to use it. I turned it on, and now it seems like my texting app is messed up. Every time I restart my phone, I get like 4 messages instantly from everyone in that group, but I can never actually read them(It gives me a download option, I click it and the message disappears completely). My wife hasn't been receiving most of my texts lately. I didn't have these issues until I got added to that group message. Is there anything I can do to get it working properly again?

P.S. I'm on an Android device
