Why cant the phone dialer keep up with my actual punching in the numbers?

I have the Moto Droid z. I have to punch numbers very slowly or it will not catch all the numbers, really slow lag

Similar problem with music and phone starting very quietly before getting to fill volume
Help would be very appreciated!
