A family member and I have Motorola Moto G 3 phones with Android. I've been noticing that over the months, my internal storage has been dropping, so now I only have 600mb of total free space, at about ~3.8 of 4.5gb used. As soon as the cached data fills up within a couple days, I get the message that the phone can't update apps, and I clear it again and again. All of this 600mb is of course, not available to store media as once I hit around the 4gb mark I have to transfer photos because it comes up on my computer as 0mb free. This results in me transferring media every few days and I cannot store practically any media on my phone (as it is, I only have a handful of photos and no music/videos/anything else). I only have five apps, all of which are very small and basic, and all are stored on a 32gb SD card that I have formatted to internal storage.
This SD card has been causing issues, however, as apart from these apps, which were automatically downloaded to the SD card, nothing else can be moved. Predictably, none of Android's google apps can be moved onto it, which are taking absurd amounts of space - and if anyone can tell me how to free space on those, that'd be great, because I've gotten too afraid to try as it gave me a message once that deleting any of those apps will tamper with my actual Google account on other devices, which is insane. But I have been unable to transfer photos or media, and there is no option to store them on the card from within the camera app as I have read there should be. I have also read that there is supposed to be a Move Media option to transfer things, but again, this does not exist, only a Migrate Data option in the SD card menu which, I cannot find anything that tells me what exactly this does. I've been wary of experimenting because - another issue - the SD card does not show up when I connect the phone to the computer, only the internal storage does. So I am afraid of migrating things to it, and then being unable to access them/take them off. My family member, who has the same phone and SD card, is having the same exact issues. So I'm left with a 32gb SD card that is almost totally free, and an empty internal storage that is full.
We are both running out of space simply because of app updates which eat up a chunk of about 30mb each time. I cannot keep any media or apps on the phone that aren't able to go onto the SD card, which is to say, barely anything. I've only had this phone for a couple of years and it's eating itself out of house and home. Trying to research this phenomenon has come up with a lot of complicated (and frankly, depressing) forum discussions about there not being much that one can do to fix it. I'd hate to have to trash the phone and look for a different manufacturer, but I'm not happy at all with how Android seems to make all of its unnecessary Google apps untouchable and proceeds to make it near impossible to compensate for that lost space.
Has anyone else had this issue with the SD card, and what steps should I take with it or with the phone to get some space back? I literally have nothing of my own on the internal storage, and it's basically full. I suspect within a few months, the storage will be down to zero.
Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks.
