Searching for service

I have a galaxy s7 and in areas with poor reception my phone will go into searching for service and none of my texts will send or receive. I am able to correct this issue by calling my voice mail which seems to restore connection. I have tried rebooting but that just makes the phone go to searching for service and I have to call my voicemail to restore service. Is this a hardware issue? software? I am going to try a FDR and see what happens
