How do you silence notifications, but still receive visual notification?

I play games on my phone and I do not want to hear a noise from them during the day. At the same time I would still like to receive the visual notification in the notification bar so I know that it is my turn.

I do not want to silence my phone since I want to receive SMS messages, etc, etc

I could adjust it on an individual basis on Oreo, but I can't find it in Pie.
