My Gallery and all its pictures has disappeared off of my phone.

I have a Sonim phone and did an Android update to 5.1.1. The Gallery app that my camera used is now gone. Google Photos has replaced it. But I have lost all the photos in the Gallery. The pics were not placed into the new Photos app. I have looked in the Application Manager, the Gallery app is not there.
