How does my phone v4.3.1 tell my desktop computer that it is ringing?

I just noticed my computer audio mutes when my phone rings. The phone is relatively new and my last phone did not do this. I found a setting in my Win10 Sound control panel to stop the muting but would like to know how the data is being sent and from what app to what app?
