galaxy s6 connects to home wi-fi fine but wont connect properly to other networks

The phone seems to have no issues with my own internet at home but at other places its been spotty of late. And to clarify these networks are saved networks that I have connected to plenty in the past. They show up in the phone as detected and often as full 5 bars of signal but the phone just sits at 'connecting' forever. This has happened at multiple locations that previously have posed no issue (including school).
