Is it possible to install any custom ROM on an 18:9 phone?

I have been shopping for a Xiaomi Mi Mix 2, but the website I found ships the phone with the China ROM, which means Google functionality is not available. If I flash a custom ROM onto it, will the 18:9 aspect ratio screw with the display?
