I can hear out of my earplugs but not through my phones speaker. help?

I've been trying to play music loud when I'm in the shower or when I generally don't want to use earbuds. The sound doesn't play through anything. No notifications play sound, no videos play sound, nothing plays sound. But when I use my earbuds they work just fine. How do I fix this.
